Since originally having the idea to create one-of-a-kind, chic, exotic, and elegant cuffs for any occasion, she has now sold her products all over the world.
Her products have been featured on the Today Show, The List, The View, and countless other national publications.
Interestingly weird fact:
I like to breakdance in weird places.
I’m a great dancer and I pull it out anywhere I can.
How did your entrepreneur journey all begin?
So eventually I became a law professor and did that for 8 years.
Then I decided to pursue a new hobby making cuffs because I been an avid collector of cuffs.
Got up one night and decided to learn how to make them on my own.
Spent $250 on supplies and started to create.
I fell in love with making cuffs.
I had no interest in starting a business.
Big Reason Why:
Reasons evolve, at first because I was always in love with cuffs so my reason for making them in the beginning was to see if I could do it.
And then my reason evolved into the joy that I got out of making it and giving it away.
And now it has evolved into a business with 24 full time employees and 10 part time employees all over the world.
Biggest Temporary Defeat:
I can only do so much, the rest I must delegate or let go.
I’m still learning that every day.
Oprah has been someone I admire ever since I was a little girl, How did you get your cuffs into the hands of celebrities like Oprah and Britney Spears?
That was my big thing growing up.
So my #1 was I wanted to see Oprah in action because she is the woman I watched and wanted to model my broadcaster career after.
I had her show number on speed dial and tried for 5 years to get tickets but they were always busy, couldn’t get through or out of tickets (Oprah tickets are really hard to get).
So I said there must be another way.
So I went online on The Oprah Winfrey Show http://oprah.com and I saw they were looking for guest and it said be on the show so I said, “Okay, If I can’t get a ticket to the show I’m gonna get a ticket to be on the show.”
They were looking for re-gifters and funny stories about that and I had really funny stories because my mom was a chronic re-gifter and I became a re-gifter, I had a whole re-gifting closet.
So I told Oprah 3 funny stories in a quick email and within 2 hours my phone rang and it was the Oprah Show and they said, “Oh my God Jill we love these stories and we want you to come be a guest on the show.”

If all you had was a laptop computer and a couple hundred dollars what would be the next Jill Donovan big idea?
I would probably invest in an idea and a budding entrepreneur and then give them all the tools that they need.
