Amy, what’s an interestingly weird fact about yourself?
In junior high high school I was in the top 15 in my class so I was placed in a special program for gifted and talented kids called “Education Through Challenge” and through that program I was learning things about classical composers, about the solar system, etc. instead of learning practical skills such as how to type.
To this day I still don’t type well, I type with 1 finger even though I work from home as a blogger.
How did your journey as an entrepreneur all begin?
She died in my car, I had a Jeep that flipped while she was driving it. I blamed myself for the accident.
Right after that, I went off to college because that was my plan because that’s what my parents did and what they wanted for me to do. It was all I knew.
So I headed off to college to honor my mom’s wish for me.
At the same time I dove heavily into drugs and alcohol because I had such a hard time dealing with the pain of her death.
I still managed to graduate from college an made the deans list.
Got through college with straight A’s even though I was out partying all the time.
So I got this degree that I never ended up using because I didn’t see myself in the corporate world.
So I decided to move out to California to become a bar tender and did that for many years.
My drug and alcohol abuse got worst and worst over the years.
All my friends started telling me I needed real help and so I hit my rock bottom and I got help to get sober.
Now I have been sober for 17 years.
After that, I had a calling to go backpacking through New Zealand.
Through my sobriety I started stepping more and more into personal development and stepping into my spirituality.
I started doing 10 day silent retreats in New Zealand and loved it so much that I almost decided to become a monk but the only reason I didn’t was became I always dreamed of being a mother and I couldn’t be a silent mother, so instead chose motherhood.
I didn’t like the corporate world so went online and started looking for ways to make money from home.
I responded to an ad and that’s how I got introduced to network marketing.
What has been your Weirdest Breakthrough Experience?
When I split up and became a single mother and got to a residual income in network marketing of 2k a month but it wasn’t enough to support my whole family by myself.
So I filed for bankruptcy and let the house go into foreclosure.
Moved in with my kinds to an apartment and decided no matter what I’m going to make this work.
Set a big goal to advance to the next level in my network marketing company which would give me a 5K bonus plug double residual income.
I got very close to hitting the goal but didn’t do it.
I called my sponsor and was ready to quit because I watched so many people get that rank in less time.
At this point I was in the company for 9 years.
My sponsor gave me permission to leave, I felt defeated but I knew that no matter what I was gonna make this happen.
That’s when I discovered the internet which helped me get to the next level.
What’s the vision of Amy Starr Allen look like for the future?
My why is my kids and my vision is to lead by example.
To show my children what’s possible.
Also I set a goal to adopt a child from an orphanage and as a big goal helping lots of children in orphanages.
Amy, what’s your biggest piece of Entrepreneurial Advice you would like to share with our listeners?
Start making videos.
Be authentic, transparent and real and that allows people to really be connected to you.
Share personal things like your passions, hobbies and family as well as business stuff.
Using conscious marketing, it’s not all about selling, it’s about just being real.
Please share with us more about your book “MLM for MOM- Why network marketing is a natural fit for mothers” and what inspired you to create it?
I started writing this book when I was married with 1 child.
I didn’t finish writing the book until later on when I became a single mother because it was meant to be that way.
That 2k residual income was the only reason I didn’t have to leave my kids and I wanted to show other moms what’s possible.
What’s your favorite success quote?
“Far better it is to dare mighty things to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure then to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy or suffer much because they live in a gray twilight that know not victory or defeat.” – “Theodore Roosevelt”
The Motivation Manifesto – by Brendon Burchard
